safety & reporting
Last updated: September 19, 2026
Whois exists so people own their own page. Owning your page doesn't mean anything goes — a few things are off limits, and this page says exactly what they are, how to report them, and what we do about it.
Report a page → You don't need an account, and you can stay anonymous.
Not allowed, ever
- Anything sexual involving a child. Images, video, text, drawings, links, or using Whois to approach or groom a child. There is no warning and no second chance for this.
- Threats of violence toward anyone, or content encouraging people to hurt others.
- Targeted harassment— going after a specific person, posting someone's private details (address, phone number, workplace) to expose them, or coordinating pile-ons.
- Hateaimed at people for who they are — race, religion, disability, gender, sexuality, or where they're from.
- Pretending to be someone elsein a way designed to mislead. Parody and fan pages are fine when it's obvious what they are.
- Posting work that isn't yours— someone else's music, photos, or art presented as yours or shared without permission.
- Scams, phishing, malware, or fake login pages of any kind — including ones pretending to be Whois.
- Anything else that's illegal where you or the people seeing it are.
Child safety
This one gets its own section because it's the one we treat differently from everything else.
- Accounts involved are removed immediately, without notice.
- We report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), as US law requires of services that host what people upload. That covers child sexual abuse material, child sex trafficking, and adults coercing or enticing a minor.
- We preserve the record for at least a year, because deleting it would destroy evidence someone may need.
- We do not investigate on our own or go looking through the material. We remove, preserve, and report.
If a child is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number first. Whois is one person and a website — we are not an emergency service and we cannot respond at the speed an emergency needs. In the US you can also reach the NCMEC CyberTipline at report.cybertip.org.
How to report
Every page on Whois has a report link at the bottom, or use the report formdirectly. Pick a reason and send it — you don't have to write an explanation if you'd rather not.
For anything urgent you can also email riversidegenai@gmail.com.
What happens after you report
A person reads it. Not a filter, not an algorithm. Being straight with you about what that means in practice:
- Child safety and clearly illegal content: we aim to act within 24 hours, and faster when we see it sooner.
- Everything else:usually a few days. Whois is run by one person, so we'd rather tell you that than promise an hour and miss it.
- We keep a record of every report and what was done about it, so decisions stay consistent instead of depending on the mood of the day.
- We may not write back. If you left an email we might; if the report was anonymous we can't. Either way it was read.
Depending on what we find, we may do nothing, ask the person to change something, remove the content, or remove the account.
Someone is using my music, photos, or art
Use the report formand pick the copyright reason, or email us. Tell us what the work is, where yours lives (a link is ideal), and which Whois page is using it. If it's your work and you didn't agree to it being there, we take it down.
If we got it wrong
If we removed something of yours and you think that was a mistake, email riversidegenai@gmail.comand say so. You'll get a real answer from a real person. We would rather reverse a bad call than defend it.
The one exception is child safety, where removals are final and are not appealed to us.
What we don't do
- We don't rank, boost, or bury pages. There's no algorithm deciding who gets seen, which also means moderation here is about removing what's harmful — never about quietly hiding someone.
- We don't sell your information or run ads, so we have no reason to profile you or study how long you stay.
- We don't read reports as votes. Ten reports about a page someone simply dislikes is still nothing; one report about something genuinely harmful is everything.
Who runs this
Whois is operated by an individual, not a company — reachable at riversidegenai@gmail.com. If you need a named contact for a legal or law-enforcement request, email that address and you'll get one.
